About Anthony Hamilton

Anthony Hamilton was born in 1971 in North Carolina and got his start singing in his church choir. He played in talent shows and at bars during his teens before moving to New York and signing a record deal with Uptown Records in 1993. Unfortunately, the company went out of business before his first album was released. In 1996, he got picked up by MCA, who finally released his debut album, XTC. For the next several years, he toured, recorded backup vocals for other artists, and tried unsuccessfully to get a follow-up album released.

In 2002, a spot opened up singing on a track for Nappy Roots. The song was nominated for a GRAMMY and earned Hamilton some attention. He got a meeting with producer Jermaine Dupri, who signed him to the So So Def record label. Hamilton released his next album, Comin' From Where I'm From, on that label in 2003. The hit single from the album, "Charlene," reached number 3 on the Billboard R&B Charts. Hamilton released several other albums in the following years, including 2008's The Point of It All, which was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Traditional R&B Album. He has continued to record and perform, and was featured on the soundtrack for Quentin Tarantino's Academy award-winning film Django Unchained
