About Elīna Garanča

Elīna Garanča was born into a musical family in 1976 in Latvia. She studied with her mother at the Latvian Academy of Music when she was 20. After her graduation, she started her career at the Staatstheater in Meiningen, Germany, and continued at the Frankfurt Opera. In 2001, she was a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.  In 2005, she became an exclusive artist with the German record label Deutsche Grammophon, and her recordings have won numerous awards, including the ECHO Klassik. Since then, she has toured internationally, performing in opera houses and recital halls all over the world.

Her other awards include the ECHO Klassik Female Singer of the Year Award in 2007, MIDEM's Singer of the Year Award in 2007, and Musical America's Vocalist of the Year Award in 2010. In 2013, she was named Kammersängerin at the Weiner Staatsoper, one of the youngest people to ever receive the award.
