About Suzi Quatro

Suzi Quatro was born in 1950 in Detroit. She was the fourth of five children and she was raised in a musical family. Growing up, she studied piano and percussion, and she made her performance debut playing bongos with her father's band, The Art Quatro Trio. At age 14, she started her own all-female band, The Pleasure Seekers (they later changed their name to Cradle). She toured with them as their lead singer and bass guitarist until the early 1970s, when she was offered a solo contract by producer Mickie Most. She flew to England in 1971 to launch her career. She had her first big hit in 1973, "Can the Can," which made it to the top of the Billboard charts and made her the first female bassist to become a rock & roll star. She has sold over 55 million records to date.

In the late 1970s, Quatro began to branch out in her career. She played Leather Tuscadero on the hit TV show "Happy Days" from 1977-1979, and went on to act in several other shows. In 1986, she made her stage acting debut as Annie Oakley in the West End production of Annie Get Your Gun, and in 1988 she began hosting her own talk show.  In 1989, she became one of the first rock & roll performers to play in Russia. By the late 1990s, she was hosting her own radio show on BBC2, which is still on the air today. She was nominated for a Sony Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2006 for her show. In the 2000s, she made a return to her musical roots, releasing an autobiographical album as well as a memoir.  In 2010, she was voted into the Michigan Rock & Roll Legends online Hall of Fame. Her most recent album was released in 2019 and she continues to tour internationally.
